Acadia Sheriff’s Office Says Less Trouble For Church Point Parade
Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson says a combined law enforcement presence along the Church Point parade route led to a reduction in the amount of problems and arrests.
Gibson says several agencies, including his own, joined forces to make the Church Point parade experience an even nicer event.
He says in previous years young groups of people would take over private parking lots, and it sometimes would lead to major fights.
This year the Churcp Point Police Department was assisted by the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, the Crowley Police Department, the Mamou Police Department and the Rayne Police Department.
There were 13 reported fights last year, but with the saturation of officers, this year there were only two reported fights.
Gibson says he wants to thank all law enforcement for gathering together to make sure that the Church Point parade was once again a safe, family event.
