UPDATED: Schools across South Louisiana are bracing for a potentially historic winter storm. Sub-freezing temperatures and snow are expected for most of Acadiana.

Weather experts have confirmed hazardous travel conditions on both Tuesday and Wednesday, forcing more schools to announce closures.

Schools closures as of Sunday evening, according to KADN are as follows:

ACADIA PARISH:

  • All public schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • LSUE closed Tuesday and Wednesday

EVANGELINE PARISH:

  • All public schools Closed Tuesday and Wednesday

IBERIA PARISH:

  • All public schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Acadiana Christian School closed Tuesday and Wednesday

JEFF DAVISH PARISH:

  • All public schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • SOWELA Technical Community College (all locations) closed Tuesday

LAFAYETTE PARISH:

  • All public schools closed on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy (K-12) in Youngsville is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Lafayette Christian Academy closed on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • University of Louisiana will transition to remote instruction on Tuesday and Wednesday

ST. LANDRY PARISH:

  • All public schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday

ST. MARTIN PARISH:

  • All public schools are closed Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Episcopal School of Acadiana (both campuses) CLOSED Tuesday and Wednesday

ST. MARY PARISH:

  • All public schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday

VERMILION PARISH:

  • All public schools closed Tuesday and Wednesday

According to Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo, Acadiana needs to prepare for at least two nights of sub-freezing temperatures.

If we do get some sort of wintery precipitation on Tuesday, it could make driving on the roads hazardous for motorists well into Thursday if temperatures stay below freezing.

As Rob Perillo mentions in his post, if you have never driven in snow, you should avoid doing so, especially since most people in South Louisiana are rookies, too. He also points out that since this will most likely not be a freezing rain event, we should not have as many power outages.
