A Dense Fog Advisory has been posted for Lousiana parishes along and south of I-10 from the Texas line to New Orleans this morning. That means visibilities in the advised area could drop below a quarter of a mile or less before the fog burns off later this morning.

It is going to be a typical February week in South Louisiana. This is not the kind of forecast that members of the chamber of commerce will want to bottle and open for visitors later. This is Acadiana at its dampest and dankest for at least the beginning of the week.

Then a cold front will come through during the day on Wednesday and we'll be gloomy and gray with colder temperatures instead of gloomy and gray with muggy damp conditions. So, you can see it's not the kind of forecast you'd want to write home about.

The silver lining in all the abundance of cloudiness has got to be that so far forecasters don't anticipate any significant severe weather outbreaks with this week's weather pattern. For the most part, today (Monday) and Tuesday will be mild and muggy. That will mean a good chance of fog for your drive in again tomorrow morning.

By Wednesday temperatures will start to cool down just a little as the frontal system enters the area. Look for a significant threat of showers through Wednesday night and into Thursday. Again, the speculation is that this will only be a rain producer and not a producer of severe storms but that is always subject to change.

The good news is that by Friday when a lot Mardi Gras events and parades will begin firing up for the run into Fat Tuesday skies should be clearing. In fact, the long-range forecast for Mardi Gras weekend only holds a slight risk of rain on Sunday. Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras should be partly cloudy with temperatures in the middle 70s. That should be about as nice as a Fat Tuesday forecast can get.
