Firefighters with the Lafayette Fire Department were called out to a Johnston Street business at around 11:30 Tuesday night to battle a fire at the location.

Lafayette Fire Department Investigator Alton Trahan says, via press release, that firefighters were able to bring the blaze at Aquarium Central until their control in about ten minutes time.

Trahan says they are investigating to figure out exactly what caused the fire in the 4400 block of Johnston Street.

Now, the full name of the business is Aquarium Central, Tropical Fish and Exotics, and the firefighters helped the owner of the business to remove as many of the animal life as possible once they were able to put out the fire. Trahan says that, unfortunately, there were many fish and other aquatic life that perished in the blaze.

When firefighters got to the scene, they saw a bunch of smoke coming from the building, and once they got into the facility, they saw that a big, wooden cabinet was on fire.
