Social media can be a double edged sword. It's a great way to reconnect with people you've long been out of touch with, and a great way to stay in touch with faraway family & friends.
It's also, unfortunately, sometimes a source of unreliable information. Facebook shut down more than 200 Russian accounts working both sides in the 2016 presidential election.

#1 Credit repair scams: Scammers say they can clean up your credit report & boost your credit score. Beware if they ask for account information or want payment in advance.
#2 Romance scams: They play on vulnerable people, looking for love.It's also called "catfishing" The scammer will cultivate an online relationship through a fake social media account, but somehow is never able to meet in person. They eventually ask for help with a financial problem. Give that person money & they disappear.
#3 Job offers: This is a big one. Scammers offer the opportunity to make money working from home at something that requires little effort. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If it requires an up front investment from you, that's a red flag.
