
Louisiana Beware: Scammers Targeting People With Jury Duty Hoax
Louisiana law enforcement officials warn people that scammers are calling people claiming they have missed jury duty, and if they don't pay up, they will be arrested.
Scammers are working to prey on people in our area by pretending to be local law enforcement officials or persons who work for the court system in our area. These unscrupulous people trick you into thinking you are in trouble for being arrested! That kind of threat would make anyone panic!
Will Law Enforcement Call You About Jury Duty?
Officials with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office want you to know that they are not going to call you to tell you they need to pay them. If someone calls you asking for money and claiming they are calling from a law enforcement agency or the court, hang up on them.
There will never be a time when someone from the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office will call you to pay them money so you "can get out of missing jury duty." That has never happened; it doesn't happen now and will not occur in the future.
What Do You Do If Someone Calls You About This?
If you receive a call from anyone with law enforcement asking for money, do not give them any.
Please don't give them your personal information, including your Social Security number, bank account number, or anything else that might identify you.

No one will call you to pay a fine over the phone.
What Else Should You Be Suspicious Of During A Call?
These scammers will give you a fake badge number or a case ID, but they are bogus to convince you they are legitimate.
Anytime someone is asking you to pay for something with forms of payments that are untraceable, don't do it. They may ask for payment via the following:
- Gift Cards
- Wire Transfers
- Cryptocurrency
