Members of the Carencro City Council have voted for an ordinance that will mean an increase for water and sewage rates for customers over the next five years.

The council voted for the rate increases for the next five years.  The council voted in favor of the plan Monday.

The first year rates for water and sewage will go up 48 cents each month for the first 3,000 gallons used commercially and 5,000 gallons used by residential customers.

The new rates take effect December 1.

The rates then increase another 10 cents for each 1,000 gallons that customers use.

The rest of the plan calls for an increase each year by 50 cents for the next four years.

Council members say the increase were needed after a June audit showed operating losses of $105,000 for the water department and $29,471 for sewage.
