Carlee Alm-LaBar and Andy Hebert: Both Sides Of Lafayette Charter Debate
There are two distinct sides to the debate over changes to Lafayette's home rule charter. In December, voters will decide if a separate city council is formed along with a host other changes. The group Fix The Charter is leading the charge in trying to explain exactly what the benefits of changing the charter would be. Carlee Alm-Labar joined us on Acadiana's Morning News to explain the measure from her perspective. To her credit, Alm-LaBar says the plan does not fix everything, but it's a step.
Lafayette resident Andy Hebert has long been involved in local government and is a fixture at council meetings. He has been especially outspoken about the charter issue. His contention is that there are more questions than answers and that important aspects of the deal, including utilities, need to be addressed before he can vote "YES".
