The Army Corps of Engineers will be in Lake Charles today and in Abbeville on Thursday taking public comment regarding a plan to reduce storm surge and restore wetlands. Today's meeting is at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Thursday's meeting will be held at the Vermilion Parish Public Library in Abbeville. Both meeting begin at 6pm.

Anyone not able to attend the meeting may submit comments via email or snail mail through January 26th.

The study covers 4,700 square miles of land in Vermilion, Cameron and Calcasieu parishes. The plan includes raising and flood-proofing homes, and some buyouts to reduce potential damages. It also recommends restoring marshes, protecting shorelines and reforesting cheniers.
