Deadline To Apply For Flood Assistance Is October 13th And What To Do If You’ve Been Denied
It's been two months since disastrous flooding inundated a large part of south Louisiana and caused nearly $9-billion in damage. October 13 is the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance if your home or business was affected. Also, officials with FEMA say your claim may still be viable if you've been denied.
If you live in a parish that was declared a disaster in August and you were affected by the flooding, you MUST complete an application with FEMA before you receive any assistance. Once you have done so, you will be given a nine-digit number that also allows you to apply for a low-interest loan from the Small Business Administration, or SBA.
The SBA doesn't just assist businesses. It can also help non-profit organizations, homeowners, and renters who lost belongings. Additionally, SBA can help if you didn't have enough insurance to cover all of your damages.
You can apply with FEMA online at disasterassistance.gov, call them at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or visit a Disaster Recovery Center. You can go to any recovery center in the state, regardless of where you live if your home is in a declared disaster area.
