EUNICE, La. (KPEL) -- An Elton man with a long criminal history is facing jail time once again after he allegedly kidnapped his pregnant girlfriend and beat her.

Deputy Chief Varden Guillory, a Eunice Police Department spokesperson says it initially started Saturday, June 23. 24-year-old Norman Cesar was arrested after several warnings that he was not allowed on Sunrise Community Apartments property. Guillory says Cesar bonded out early the next morning.

On Sunday June 24, Guillory says Cesar's girlfriend, who is five months pregnant, caught him cheating on her with another woman. The girlfriend then shattered the windows to Cesar's car.

"Cesar then exited the vehicle and grabbed her by the neck and choked her with both hands," Guillory says. "He then forced her back into her vehicle and ordered her to drive him back to her apartment in the Sunrise Community Apartment complex where he's forbidden."

When they got to her apartment, Guillory says Cesar choked her and beat her once again, punching her in the face several times. Guillory says he left the apartment after a short time.

"The female victim locked the doors and secured the apartment to prevent Cesar from returning," Guillory says.

Just a few minutes later, though, Guillory says Cesar kicked in a window air conditioning unit in order to get back into the apartment. He then allegedly continued beating his girlfriend and placed a knife to her throat.

"Cesar then punched and kicked the pregnant victim in the stomach," Guillory says.

Every time she would try to escape, Guillory says Cesar would beat her again. When at last she was able to get free, Cesar allegedly destroyed her flatscreen television and other items before leaving the scene.

When officers arrived at the apartment, Guillory says they found blood and hair throughout. They also found the knife allegedly used during the beating. Warrants were issued for Cesar's arrest, and on Monday, he was taken into custody.

He is being charged with attempted first degree feticide, domestic abuse battery, simple kidnapping, criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property, home invasion, entry on premises after being forbidden, and aggravated assault.

Cesar has an arrest history dating back to 2006. He has been booked several times on various drug charges. He was also charged in June 2007 of attempted second degree murder.

The girlfriend was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for blunt abdominal trauma during the pregnancy, Guillory says.
