SHREVEPORT, La. (KPEL News) – A tragic case of child neglect is unfolding in Shreveport after a 15-year-old girl was found abandoned in a hotel room where she had been living alone for nearly two weeks.

Girl Found Living Alone in Filthy Conditions

On April 2, officers with the Shreveport Police Department responded to a call at the Royal Inn, where they discovered the teenage girl in deplorable living conditions. According to investigators, the teen told police she had not bathed in over two weeks and had been finding food on her own to survive. She reportedly apologized to officers for her appearance, explaining that she was doing the best she could.

Teen Claims She Hasn’t Attended School in Years

In addition to her physical condition, the girl informed authorities that she had not been enrolled in school for nearly three years. Officers who responded to the call, expressed concern over her prolonged educational neglect and poor living standards.

Mother Allegedly Said “Be Back Soon” — Then Disappeared

The investigation revealed that the girl’s mother, Angela Herring, had left the hotel more than a week prior, telling her daughter, “I love you, be back soon.” She never returned, according to police.

The girl’s father, Carey Herring, had reportedly been banned from the Royal Inn around March 19 and had not been seen since.

Parents Arrested and Booked into Caddo Correctional Center

Shreveport Police obtained warrants for both parents, who were later arrested and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. They now face charges of improper supervision of a juvenile and criminal neglect of family.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

This case is still under active investigation by the Youth Services Bureau of the Shreveport Police Department. Officials urge anyone with further information to come forward.
