LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — A former deputy for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office has been charged in the December shooting death of her husband.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/VvSsYj ) a St. Martin Parish grand jury on Thursday charged Chrystal Alexander with second-degree murder.

Alexander, a former lieutenant in the Sheriff's Office, is accused of killing 34-year-old Kendall Alexander at the couple's home in Breaux Bridge on Dec. 29.

Bail was set at $150,000. It was not known if she was represented by an attorney.

Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars says Alexander will be arraigned Aug. 5.
