Family: Alex Trebek’s Wardrobe to Raise Money for Charity
America lost a true treasure on November 8, 2020 when long-time host of the television game show "Jeopardy!" passed away at age 80. Canadian Alex Trebek had shared his Stage 4 pancreatic cancer journey with the world and still managed to work at the show up until 10 days before his death. His fans were heartbroken, and he left a legacy of grace in the wake of his horrible diagnosis.
After hosting the popular quiz show for more than five decades, Trebek had amassed an impeccable wardrobe, which is now going to do some good for some folks who really need it right now. Earlier this week, Trebek's son Matthew Trebek, along with producers from "Jeopardy!" announced that a majority of the star's wardrobe, which includes suits, dress shirts, sweaters, and even parkas, will be donated to the non-profit organization The Doe Fund. According to their website, the Doe Fund has helped over 28,000 formerly homeless and incarcerated men rebuild their lives since 1999.
Jeopardy! executive producer Mike Richards told USA Today "During his last day on set, Alex extolled the virtues of everyone opening up their hands and their hearts to those who are suffering. Donating his wardrobe to those who are working to rebuild their lives is the perfect way to begin to honor that last request.”
The syndicated quiz show has continued after Trebek's death, and has had a series of special guest stars hosting, including former Jeopardy! winner Ken Jennings. Read more about the generous donation from the Trebek family at USA Today.
