Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out just how our federal tax dollars are spent.

When we send our senators or congressmen to Washington D.C. part of their job is to guard the interests of tax money.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy's office announced today that some of that money will be coming back to Louisiana to benefit several fire departments.

The following is a list of the fire departments in Acadiana that will benefit from the grant money and what amount each department will receive:

Arnaudville Volunteer Fire Department will receive $26,586 in grant money.

Butte LaRose Volunteer Fire Department will receive $97,510 in grant money.

Cade Volunteer Fire Department will receive $78,605 in grant money.

Catahoula Volunteer Fire Department will receive $91,062 in grant money.

Senator Cassidy is quoted as saying, "Firefighters work long hours and often risk their lives to save others. Because of this funding, more men and women will have better equipment, improving their safety and effectiveness as they do their jobs and serve our communities".

The total amount of grant money coming to Louisiana is $621,922, and there are several other departments that will receive funding:

Covington Fire Department will receive $198,096 in grant money.

Delhi Fire Department will receive $48,572 in grant money.

Northeast Bossier Fire District 5 will receive $73,810 in grant money.

Ruston Fire Department will receive will receive $7,681 in grant money.

Cassidy says he is hoping the money will be helpful in making things safer for firefighters.
