Thanksgiving is one of the biggest family days of the year. Although there will be a lot of visiting, eating, and napping, I thought it would be nice to add some fun activities to our Thanksgiving gathering that will boost the celebration.  This year, I am going to have everyone write something they are thankful for on a large white pumpkin. It will make the perfect centerpiece.  I also decided we would play a couple of games for some laughs. There are lots of fun family activities for Thanksgiving Day. Add some cheer and make it memorable this year. Here are a few ideas so you and your family can join in on the fun.

Volunteer or Deliver a Meal:

Find a local Salvation Army or homeless shelter and provide a meal for those in need. Or create a nice plate or two of goodies and deliver it to an elderly neighbor who may not have family. You and your family can team up and all go together to help the less fortunate have a warm holiday.

Family Football Game:

There’s nothing like a friendly family football game for the whole family.  Some good outdoor fun that will help work off some of those calories. Touch football or flag football is obviously the way to go to avoid trips to the emergency room.

Outdoor Scavenger Hunt:

Get the family members into pairs or teams and have a scavenger hunt. This can be in your backyard or even throughout the neighborhood. Maybe even have some small gift cards for prizes.

Decorate the Christmas Tree:

Take advantage of the help while you can get it. Instead of the traditional way to decorate the tree, have the family help. Turn on some holiday music, serve some eggnog, and assign each person certain ornaments. Watch your tree come to life with each person’s creative touch. It will truly be a Family Tree.

Family Game Night:

Go the traditional route with games like Pictionary and Scattergories or if it’s just adults, Cards Against Humanity would have you all laughing. Charades is always a classic too.

Reminisce With Photo Albums:

Take out the old photo albums and set them out on the coffee table. They will surely be a hit and stir up some great storytelling. Everyone will love sharing memories and looking at the old fashions and hairstyles.

Creative way to share thanks:

Have everyone write one thing they are thankful for on a large pumpkin. Or, start a Thanksgiving Journal and have everyone write something they are thankful for in the journal. Pull it out every year. It will become a family treasure.

Family Stroll:

Get the whole crew together and take a stroll through the neighborhood.  It will help to burn some of those calories.
