George HW Bush’s Service Dog Sully Gets His Own Statue

The nation fell in love with the sweet Labrador retriever Sully, during the funeral services a year ago for President George HW Bush. Sully, a certified service dog, stayed by his master's coffin, and we mourned along with him.

On Sunday, Sully was honored during the Houston Texans football game at NRG Stadium, and got to introduce another America's Vet Dogs service dog to his new owner during the game. George H. W. Bush’s grandson, Pierce Bush escorted Sully and the new service dog, Chesnut, (a black lab) to Army veteran Lukas More. He also caught the eye of the Texans' defensive end JJ Watt, who gave the pooch a big smooch on the field, which you can see below.

On Monday, a statue of Sully designed by Susan Bahary and commissioned by America's Vet Dogs was unveiled at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas. The bronze statue weighs 60 lbs and is 30 inches high. It will be located in the east wing, and will be a permanent fixture at the Library beginning on December 6th.

Sully is currently working as a facility dog at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Good boy!
