Today on 'Firearms Friday' Glenn Fleming stressed the importance of responsibility and awareness for gun owners.

We've heard many comments dealing with concealed carry weapons and asked Glenn how big a part awareness plays in carrying a weapon and he replied,

If you're carrying a weapon it is your responsibility to know what's going on around you.  If someone wants to pick your pocket and suddenly finds out you have a pistol they'll pick more than your wallet.  Carrying a gun is a big responsibility.  You've got to know what's going on around you.  You have to know what's going on and be aware of what you're doing.

When it comes to safety Fleming noted a major mistake shown in movies, on television and seen at local gun stores.

You go to a gun store, you pick up a gun and the first thing you do is put your finger on the trigger.  That pretty much clues everybody that you're a newbie....of course you don't want to 'dry fire' a weapon without permission because it may damage the firing pin.

With new gun control legislation being passed in some states Fleming noted,

Funny thing is there have been companies that have moved out of states with new stricter laws.  But no gun companies are moving into the states with stricter gun laws.

Fleming went on to discuss Square and Pay Pal enacting new rules to prevent purchases of weapons and ammunition and large nationwide banks that are curtailing loans to gun manufacturers and sells.  You can hear his comments about those topics as well as insights into stricter gun laws and violent crime rates by listening to the interview:
