Investigators are trying to piece together what led to the downing of a helicopter south of Morgan City this morning.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration say the helicopter crashed just after 9:00 this morning, killing two people.

The helicopter was owned by Cenac Marine Services, a towboat company out of Houma. Company attorney Berwick Duval identified the passenger as Lanny Ledet, managed the company's Golden Ranch Plantation in Gheens.

The pilot was not a Cenac employee, Duval said.

Deputies with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, along with officials from the State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are on the scene.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate.
