Unfortunately, Olive, a buckskin pit bull terrier, was euthanized at the parish shelter, according to the Louisiana Humane Society. While Olive couldn't be saved, the Aviary Creature Rescue is determined to raise awareness and get answers for the increase in horrific animal cruelty cases like this one in St. Mary Parish.

"Olive did not survive her wounds, which is why it is so much more important now that we BE HER VOICE."

The rescue organization met with the St.Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and is working to spread the word and make sure the people responsible for animal cruelty crimes like this one are held accountable.

"Her sweet little body was full of holes from all the gunshots she endured, yet she still had the courage to ask for help when discovered by a kind-hearted citizen who untied the heavy chain that was keeping her in the brush, not to be discovered to presumably die a slow, painful, starved death."

Louisiana Police Offer Reward After Dog Found Chained to Tree and Shot

Aviary Creature Rescue explains that Olive's story is one they are tired of hearing, "Olive's story is not a unique one. We find dogs left for dead in the area she was tied up on a monthly basis. We are pushing for harsher fines, cameras, and an overall greater response to animal cruelty in our parish and state. Louisiana has some extremely lacking animal laws, so cruelty and breeding run rampant unchecked."

They are calling on the local community to speak up for Olivie, "Someone knows who did this."

You can donate to Olivie's GoFundMe reward fund here.

Anyone with information is urged to text 985-999-0210 or contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Jeff Dorson HSLA Director explains that many of these crimes would be considered felonies according to KATC, "We’re hearing and seeing a lot of horrific animal cruelty incidents in St. Mary Parish for reasons that remain unclear. However, we’re hopeful the Sheriff’s Office, the St. Mary Parish Animal Shelter, and humane groups like Aviary Creature Rescue will identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. There is no reason to torture, injure, or harm all these wonderful creatures. It defies logic. Plus, many of these crimes, when animals are tortured, mutilated, or maliciously killed, would be considered felonies, carrying severe penalties, including jail time, fines, mandatory community service, counseling, and future pet ownership restrictions."

If you see something, say something. With community support, the individuals responsible for torturing Olive will be held responsible, and justice will be served.
