Louisiana State Police investigators say that a man thrown out of his car in St. Martin Parish ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

State Police officials were called out to investigate a crash on Louisiana Highway 347 near Doyle Melancon Road where they found a seriously injured 27-year-old Joseph Terral after a single vehicle crash.

Terral was taken to a hospital following the 2 a.m. crash, but he died from his injuries Sunday afternoon.

Investigators say that Terral was southbound on Highway 347 when he crossed the center line of the roadway, went into the northbound lanes, went off the road, and he was thrown out of the vehicle as he was not wearing a seatbelt.

His car ended up hitting a concrete culvert, then the vehicle went in the ditch, and it ended hitting a tree.

Whether or not impairment was a factor in the crash is not known right now, but officials say that routinely toxicology tests are being run.
