Unless you've been under a rock, you know we've got some pretty important elections coming up in a couple of months. And the State of Louisiana, and Secretary of State R. Kyle Ardoin is asking citizens to help out on election day, and yes, get paid if you qualify.

First steps are to review the Election Work Flyer and fill out the Elections Worker Application. There are several ways you can send in the applications. Email to electionworker@sos.la.gov, send in to your local parish Clerk of Court's office, or mail to Secretary of State, Elections Division, Election Poll Worker Application, P.O. Box 94125, Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9125. You can also fax in at 225.922.1167.

 

You will be required to: Be a registered voter in your area, be able to attend a 1-2 hour training course, and be at least 17 years and a high school senior or older. In addition, you must provide your own transportation to your assigned precinct, remain at your assigned location all day, and not leave during your shift. The job descriptions and payment for working the elections are provided below, from the LA.Gov website.

  • Election Day Worker- works only on Election Day
    Earn up to $200
    Arrive at least 30 min- 1 hour prior to polls opening
    Able to work for the entire day (6:00 am- 8:00 pm)
  • Early Voting Worker- works for 7 days excluding Sundays
    Earns $100 per day
    Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to polls opening
    Able to work for the entire day (8:30 am- 6:00 pm)
  • Absentee Worker- works Board of Election Supervisors meeting days
    Earn $50 per meeting
    You will be notified about the time of meeting but expect to work at least 4 hours
