The Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association is marking the start of Carnival season with a big announcement. The group has teamed up with Townsquare Media to present the 2018 Independent Parade in Lafayette. Early registration is now open for this year’s parade, which will be limited to 35 floats. The cost of registering a float in the 2018 Independent Parade has been cut in half to only $500. Rules and requirements are posted now at IndependentParade.com.

Other important info (included in rules on the website, but below for your reference):

  1. Vehicles or floats can be no wider than fourteen (14) feet, higher than 13 ½ feet, no longer than forty (40) feet (trailer), and must have a minimum of 6 feet, 6 inches (6’,6”) from ground to top of sidewall of the throwing area.
  2. Floats must be pulled by pick up or flatbed trucks. No 18-wheelers will be permitted.
