A mother's obituary has gone viral on social media after she wrote her own goodbye to the world and her kids.

Valerie Ann Smith, of Meadows of Dan, died on June 20, 2024, after a battle with cancer. Knowing that she did not have many days left to live, she elected to write her obituary and it is beautiful.

It starts with, "I have been blessed to live my final 4 years in an old farmhouse in Meadows of Dan with my best friend and devoted husband, Denny Kelvin Smith, Jr, and our youngest children."

She goes on to say that she is blessed to have found the small town where she lived and even expressed her love for the church she found in the small community, Grace Baptist Church in Stuart, VA.

The 39-year-old mother would then add in her own words, "Focus on not holding grudges because holding a grudge is only putting you in a sour mood. When was the last time you really let your friends know you appreciate them and invested your time in them? Your life would look a lot different without them in it, you know."

Valerie then wrote an important message to all parents and that is to spend time with their kids and eliminate distractions from your life that take away time with your kids. She also encourages readers to find God in their lives and to find a church they love visiting.

Lastly, she wrote this to all of her family and friends, "To all my friends and family, thank you. I hope to see you again!"

The young mother had so much more to say, and I highly encourage you to read it in her own words. Her obituary can be read in its entirety HERE.

A memorial service for Valerie will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
