Louisiana Students Go Too Far in Neighborhoods With Homecoming Pranks

Students across South Louisiana are celebrating Homecoming week as many high schools get closer to the middle of football season, but now some students are going way too far.

In recent years we have seen student pranks in neighborhoods go to a whole new level. Students are no longer just putting toilet paper in trees; some are now getting destructive and disruptive at times.

Police agencies across Acadiana have warned students and parents that their actions during such pranks can come with consequences if property is damaged. Well, police may soon have to warn students that being disruptive while pulling homecoming pranks can also come with consequences.

While most don't mind having toilet paper in the trees or bushes at their home, some neighbors may find it to be a bit much, but tolerate it. What some are not willing to tolerate in their neighborhoods is being disturbed while pranks are happening.

Many who participate in such homecoming week pranks do so once the sun is down and often show up at their peer's homes late in the night. It is then that toilet paper is tossed in the yard, weird objects are placed in the yard, and when fireworks are set off.

Yes. some kids are now blasting fireworks in neighborhoods once they've littered yards and they are waking up more than just those who they are pranking.

Recently in one Lafayette neighborhood kids showed up late in the night to execute a prank and they left while fireworks were going off.  The problem came when the entire neighborhood was awakened to what some thought were gunshots.

So again, parents, it is time to talk to and warn your kids of the dangers of pranking people in the middle of the night. Sure, it can be fun, but it can also be dangerous and costly if someone doesn't find the prank to be entertaining.
