What to Expect at Lafayette Buc-ee’s Groundbreaking November 9th
(KMDL-FM) Over the course of the past decade, we have written a lot of articles about the Texas-based travel center, Buc-ee's. We've covered the good, the not-so-good, and, of course, the best, which is the news that Buc-ee's is building a travel center right here in our town.

Do you think Lafayette just had a "Great Pumpkin" moment, or do you think "things will never be the same"? Regardless of what we think, the Beaver is arriving in Cajun Country in a year or so. The official Buc-ee's Lafayette groundbreaking will be November 9th.
Details: Buc-ee's Groundbreaking, Lafayette, LA, November 9, 2026
Based on reports, Monday, November 9, 2026, is the date, and 11 am CST is the time. Many of you have had questions about the event because there is such a strong interest in the travel center and, most certainly, the timetable for Buc-ee's arrival on I-10 near Louisiana Avenue.
The public, that's how you and I are referred to, is welcome to attend; however, please take into consideration what this event, the groundbreaking, is all about. This is more of a media event, a local officials' event, people in suits wearing hard hats event, so just know that. You know, folks wanting to have their picture taken. And that's cool.

Some Things to Consider About a Buc-ee's Groundbreaking Ceremony
The store isn't built, and there will be no facilities to handle crowds, if you know what I mean. There also won't be any place for large-scale concessions, and to be honest, parking will probably not be something you want to concern yourself with either, but you can.
During the event, we should expect speeches from Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Boulet and other local and state officials, too. The folks from Buc-ee's will have their "Top of the House" in attendance as well. CEO of Buc-ee's, Arch "Beaver" Aplin III, is expected to address the media and those in attendance. I hope Mr. Aplin can get used to being referred to as "number tree"; yeah, that's how we say it.

I am sure we will hear about store timelines and expected economic impact. We will be treated to maps, drawings, and renderings of how the new facility is expected to look. I feel fairly confident the number of jobs created will be discussed as well.

Just for clarity, this is not an official "issued by Buc-ee's" timeline, but based on previous Buc-ee's groundbreaking ceremonies, this seems to be the plan they have used, and it works well for its intended purposes. We can't guarantee, but this outline and timeline seem reasonable.
Again, this is more about the photo op and the "welcome to the neighborhood" than it is about you and I pumping gas and munching Beaver Nuggets. Our time is coming.
When Will Louisiana's First Buc-ee's Open?
Meanwhile, progress near Ruston continues on Louisiana's "First" Buc-ee's. They should be opening a few months ahead of the Lafayette store. By " a few months," we mean the difference between April 2027 for the Ruston store and "early" 2028 for Lafayette.

Many people in the community that we have spoken to will be watching to see how the Ruston Buc-ee's unfolds as far as its effect on the community and surrounding area. Buc-ee's did a heck of a job with the Harrison County, MS location; I am sure they are fine-tuning traffic flow and other aspects of more cars and trucks in the area.
We'd rather not have to add another location to this popular, unpopular list. Here, be safe at these intersections; you know what we meant.
