(KMDL-FM) You can't live in Louisiana and not love the water. Granted there are times in Cameron, Vermillion, St. Mary, and Lafourche Parishes when the water gets a little too close for comfort during hurricane season. And the folks in Alexandria, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Monroe will tell you they're not fond of an abundance of water following an afternoon deluge either.

But for the most part, when the water isn't attacking us, we do love it a lot in Louisiana. Maybe that's why our state has so many water-themed attractions. Or it could be we're below sea level and we've just had to find a way to learn to love the water. All kidding aside Louisiana does have some kick-butt lazy rivers and swimming pools.

The love of sunshine and staying cool does not seem confined to just Louisiana. All along the Gulf Coast there are water parks and other attractions that cater to families, young adults, old people who should put on more clothes, and those who just love the smell of coconut oil and chlorine.

If you love a good water park we have something to put in your "future file" for perhaps as early as 2027 but more likely spring of 2029. The developers at Leisure Sports and Recreation Group based out of Covington, Louisiana have announced plans for a new destination in the Gulf South.

What's The Name of the New Gulf Coast Water Park?

It's going to be called Jubilee Park and it's described as a 90-acre water park and recreation center. The projected $60 million project would be situated on land near an aquatic center and a 10-field soccer complex.

Jubilee Park's plans also include a waterslide, a wave pool, a lazy river, and other water-based activities. The park will also feature an indoor multi-use center, RV and bungalow sites, and an indoor water park.

Based on estimates from the developer the new water park could receive between 400,000 and 500,000 every year and is expected to add almost $5 million to local tax coffers directly and indirectly once the facility is opened.

Where Will Jubilee Park Be Located?

Jubilee Park is a short drive down I-10 for most of us in Louisiana. The proposed site is in Mobile County Alabama. The tract of land that will be developed is in close proximity to the I-10/I-65 interchange. So this could be a destination stop on your way to the beach or on the way back.
