It can sometimes be quite head-spinning trying to keep up with the new businesses opening up and closing down in and around the Lafayette, Louisiana area.

A new Whataburger location heading to Opelousas

According to a social media post, there will be a new Whataburger restaurant coming to Opelousas. But, it's going to be a while.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 10:00 am, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the new location at 6401 I-49 South Service Road. This is next door to the new Billy's Boudin & Cracklins, which is still under construction.

Currently, Whataburger has four Acadiana locations: three in Lafayette (Ambassador Caffery, Pinhook, University) and one newly opened location in Breaux Bridge.

A superfruit bowl chain coming to the Hub City

Playa Bowls, a national restaurant that specializes in superfruit bowls, will soon be opening in the Shops at Martial Shopping Center in Lafayette.

According to the Acadiana Advocate, it will be open at 2207 Kaliste Saloom Road, Suite C, in the former Mathnasium space.

Playa Bowls has a menu of over 40 items using delicious açaí, pitaya, and mango, plus coconut bowls, juices, cold brew, and smoothies.

Currently, there are over 250 locations across the United States, with the largest concentration in New Jersey, where the franchise was started.

The company has announced a continued expansion. Officials with the brand say over 100 locations are in the works.

Louisiana currently has four locations of Playa Bowls -- in Baton Rouge, Metairie, New Orleans, and Slidell.
