Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Claims Life of Young Maurice Man in Vermilion Parish
A single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 92 near Allen Road in Vermilion Parish on Friday (Mar. 1) resulted in the death of a young man from Maurice. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Parker Anthony Romero, was involved in the accident that occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m., according to Louisiana State Police.
According to the preliminary investigation by LSP, Romero was navigating his 2010 Ford F150 westbound on LA 92 when, for reasons that are still being determined, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and collided with a tree. The impact of the crash was severe, and Romero, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, suffered fatal injuries. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities are awaiting the results of a toxicology report to determine if impairment played a role in the crash. However, the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation by Louisiana State Police.
Louisiana State Police says the tragic loss of life in this accident serves as a somber reminder of the critical importance of seat belt use while driving or riding in motor vehicles. According to data from the Louisiana State University Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation Safety (CARTS), a significant number of drivers involved in fatal crashes in 2023 were not wearing their seat belts.
Properly wearing a seat belt can drastically increase the chances of survival in the event of a crash. The Louisiana State Police urge all motorists to make the responsible choice to buckle up for every drive, emphasizing that simple precautions can be the difference between life and death.
