South Louisiana’s 2026 Fall Festival Season Is Packed

Anybody who's been outside this week already knows we're not quite there yet, but relief is coming. Highs are still hanging in the 90s across Acadiana, but by mid-September we'll start seeing mornings dip into the 60s (hopefully), humidity finally letting up enough to sit outside without sweating through your shirt. It's the perfect time of year to get back outdoors and have a good time. Coincidentally, that's also when festival season kicks back into gear across Louisiana.

Boat parades, cook-offs, street dances, and Fais Do-Dos start popping up from Larose to Basile, and honestly, it's the best stretch of the year to get outdoors around here. Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival

Dates: September 24-27, 2026

New Iberia's signature festival has been going strong for over 80 years. Expect the Blessing of the Crop, a boat parade, Fais Do-Do, sugar cookery contests, and the coronation of Queen Sugar. It's one of the oldest agricultural festivals in the state, and it's a full weekend of it.

Cut Off Youth Center Hurricane Festival

The C.O.Y.C. Hurricane Festival is a Lafourche Parish tradition that benefits the local youth center, with live music, food, and family activities all weekend.

Annual IRF Rice and Gravy Cook-Off

A warm-up to the bigger Rice Festival in October, this cook-off puts Acadia Parish's favorite comfort food front and center. If you love rice and gravy as much as we do, this is worth the drive to Crowley.

La Fete Des Vieux Temps

Translated as "Festival of Old Times," this one celebrates Cajun music, dancing, and food the old-fashioned way. It's one of the more authentic, community-driven festivals on this list.

Louisiana Cattle Festival

Vermilion Parish's cattle festival brings a queen's pageant, cattle show, parade, live entertainment, and a rib-eating contest to downtown Abbeville. Admission is free.

Roberts Cove Germanfest

Louisiana is more than just Cajun and Creole roots, and Roberts Cove proves it. This little German settlement outside Rayne throws a genuine Germanfest complete with authentic food, German beer, and folklore demonstrations.

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles

This is the big one for a lot of us. Festivals Acadiens et Créoles is a free, multi-day celebration of Cajun and Creole music, food, and crafts right here in Lafayette, and it's consistently one of the best weekends of the year in Acadiana.

World Championship Gumbo Cookoff

Also known as the "Super Bowl of Gumbo," this free two-day event pulls in cooking teams from all over for gumbo, a roux run, a youth cookoff, and the "Meanest Beans" competition.

International Rice Festival

The oldest and largest agricultural festival in Louisiana. Rice country goes all out with two parades, a classic car show, a fiddle and accordion contest, and the crowning of the Rice Festival Queen.

French Food Festival

South Louisiana Black Pot Festival & Cookoff

Sweet Dough Pie Festival

Held every last Saturday in October, this small-town festival celebrates the traditional Louisiana sweet dough pie with a public-judged baking contest. It's a nice, low-key way to close out Halloween weekend.

Louisiana Swine Festival

Basile's been throwing this one since 1966. Pork cook-offs, boudin eating contests, hog calling, and live music on Main Street make it one of Evangeline Parish's biggest weekends of the year.

Giant Omelette Celebration

Abbeville's signature fall tradition, where cooks feed the whole town with a 5,000-plus egg omelette cooked in a giant skillet on Sunday afternoon. There's also an art and craft show running the full weekend alongside it.

Port Barre Cracklin Festival
