Jared Bellard – Council To Let People Vote On Tax
Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' Jared Bellard, Council Chairman of Lafayette Consolidated Government said the Council agree to let voters decide on increasing a tax millage to support recreation. Last night the Council voted 5 -3 to place the new levy on the April 6, 2012 ballot. The measure would replace the current 1.92 mill property tax with a new 7 mill property tax to fund the Parks and Recreation Department in the city limits of Lafayette.
Bellard said,
While being conservative and not wanting my property taxes to increase I feel I should give the voters a chance to vote and decide for themselves.
A KPEL NewsJunkie called in and asked Bellard where the additional money raised would be used and Bellard replied,
On December 18th a public discussion of this millage increase will be held where the Parks and Recreation Commission should be able to answer that question.
