KATC’s New Meteorologist, Jobie Lagrange, Is Dating The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - Jobie Lagrange, a recent graduate in atmospheric science and a Broussard native, has joined KATC Channel 3 as a multi-media journalist and meteorologist.
If the name is familiar, it's because she was recently introduced to the world as the girlfriend of a famous meteorologist and known weather chaser.
Lagrange, who is dating The Weather Channel’s viral meteorologist Jim Cantore, announced her new position on Friday via Facebook, expressing her excitement about reporting for her local community in South Louisiana.
Background: From College Grad to Local Meteorologist
Lagrange, who graduated over the summer with a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has had a lifelong passion for weather.
“Growing up, I always loved watching the weather and understanding how it works,” she told The Advocate recently.
After completing her degree, Lagrange worked as an intern at the National Weather Center. This position was her first professional role in meteorology, allowing her to gain hands-on experience before landing her job at KATC.
Romance with Jim Cantore
Lagrange and Cantore became acquainted in the summer of 2023 but decided to wait until she graduated and secured her first job before officially dating, according to The Advocate.
Her relationship with Cantore, a well-known meteorologist famous for his coverage of severe weather events, has drawn significant public interest, but Lagrange's public social media profiles remain focused on her own career and accomplishments.
"I worked so hard to get where I am and I did not want him to overshadow anything I was doing or receive favoritism because I was dating him," she told The Advocate. "So we didn't begin dating until I graduated and received my job opportunity."
Staying Local to Serve South Louisiana
Lagrange expressed her enthusiasm about staying in South Louisiana and bringing weather and news updates to her community, announcing to her followers that she will be "a full-MMJ and working on the Meteorology team as well."
“This first week has been amazing,” she said in a Facebook post. “I can’t wait to keep you all informed on both the news and the weather from the place that’s so central to our South Louisiana culture.”
A New Face on KATC TV-3
As a multi-media journalist and meteorologist, Lagrange will be responsible for delivering both news and weather updates to viewers across Acadiana. Her local roots and dedication to the region make her a welcome addition to KATC’s team, and her community-oriented approach is sure to resonate with South Louisiana audiences.
