BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A Baton Rouge woman, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in October to the 2004 killing of her ex-husband, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Jan Waters was convicted of the May 2004 shooting death of her ex-husband, 35-year-old Alan Waters, in his Baton Rouge home.

State District Judge Mike Erwin sentenced 46-year-old Jan Waters on Thursday. Manslaughter carries up to 40 years in prison.

Before the October plea, Waters had been out of jail on bail since March 2006.

The Advocate reports that Waters admitted in court in October that she shot her ex-husband in the chest during an argument over the couple's two children.
