LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- Police in Lafayette are continuing to investigate the death of an 11-month-old baby after the child was left inside a car throughout the day Monday.

Capt. Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says the father forgot to bring the baby to daycare and went straight to work, where he remained for six hours. When the father got a call asking about the whereabouts of the child, he realized the baby was in his car the whole time, Judice says.

The baby was taken to Women's and Children's Hospital at 4:54 p.m, Judice says; doctors pronounced the child dead at 4:55 p.m.

The name of the father has not been released.

Judice says temperatures Monday reached 99 degrees. He says it would have been much warmer inside the car.
