26-year-old Jarius T. Carson of Lafayette has been sentenced to nearly 4 years in prison for illegally possessing a loaded semi-automatic pistol and ammunition as a convicted felon.

In June of 2018, Carson was noticed by a Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputy in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Scott. Deputies say Carson tried to run away, attempting to leave the pistol in a vehicle's wheel well during the pursuit.

Carson was previously convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm and illegal carrying of a firearm in state court in August of 2010. Him being in possession of a firearm as a convicted felon violates federal law.
