Lafayette Leads State In Census Reporting, State Lags Behind
81.9 percent of Louisiana households have completed the 2020 Census questionnaire so far and Lafayette is leading the charge. Of the four largest metropolitan areas in Louisiana, Lafayette ranks just above Shreveport for response rate.
- New Orleans has a current total response rate of 56.9%.
- Baton Rouge has a current total response rate of 56.8%.
- Lafayette has a current total response rate of 63%.
- Shreveport has a current total response rate of 61.6%.
Louisiana as a state is lagging behind the national response rate for the 2020 Census. Nationwide 89.4 percent of households have responded. The Census Bureau says it still needs to visit 56 million addresses to achieve an accurate and complete count.
