Lafayette Live: Guillory Discusses His Call To Have Mouton Statue Moved
Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory joins Acadiana's Morning News every Thursday to take your calls about local government. He continues a 12-year tradition started by former Mayor-President Joel Durel and Bernadette Lee.
Listen to this morning's show with Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory.
Guillory defended his call to have Downtown Lafayette's statue of Gen Alfred Mouton taken down. Last week, he asked councilmembers for their input on the issue. He said he wants the statue to be protected but acknowledges that it is divisive among people in our community. He questions its classification as a 'Confederate monument" and instead calls it a "Jim Crow statue". He also asks why it's important to memorialize Alfred Mouton and not his father or other member of the Mouton family.
