The Lafayette City-Parish Council has decided to wait on a proposed vote that, if approved, would have given voters a chance to increase the sales tax by a 1/2 cent to fund police and firefighter services.

The Lafayette council could again bring up the discussion again, and the question could still be brought to voters via a ballot issue in November.  Lafayette City Parish Councilman Jay Castille says that will likely be too late for avoiding a lowering in the fire rating for property owners.  He spoke to KPEL on "Mornings With Ken & Bernie" :

A proposed ½ cent sales tax would mean another 16 million dollars would be collected from taxpayers to pay for police and fire services along with two additional fire stations.
