Cox Louisiana and Hunt Communications have been awarded a combined $600,000 a year contracts, displacing LUS Fiber as the Lafayette Parish School System's Internet provider.

The board voted 5-1 during a special budget meeting Tuesday to award Internet services to Cox Louisiana and services for the school system's Wide Area Network to Hunt Communications.

LUS Fiber had provided internet services to the school system since 2002.

School board President Tommy Angelle was the lone vote against the measure. Board members Britt Latiolais, Dawn Morris, Mary Morrison, Elroy Broussard, and Justin Centanni voted to approve the contracts. Tehmi Chassion, Erick Knezek and Jeremy Hidalgo were not in attendance.
