A Lafayette woman has hit the front page of TMZ for a really great (but slightly bizarre, by TMZ standards) reason: she is rehabilitating an injured squirrel.

Emily Istre was interviewed by the crew at TMZ after they learned she had taken in a young squirrel, now named Willamina. The squirrel appeared to be abandoned and had an eye injury and infection and, after being hand-fed and nursed back to health, Willamina thinks that Istre is her mom.

Kudos to Emily (and her mom!) for not being the "Ooh, let's make some rice!" people and actually deciding to rescue this young squirrel. Let Willamina and Emily's story be a lesson for us all: love trumps hate.
