Louisiana law enforcement officials say that a vehicle that was being pursued by officers from Jeanerette into the city of New Iberia ended up being hit as the suspect was driving the wrong way down the road.

The suspect was trying to avoid the police, but it didn't end up that way.

While we wait for word on why a Jeanerette officer was pursuing the vehicle, we do know that the New Iberia Police Department is investigating the crash that happened just after midnight on Thursday, March 6. We have reached out to the Jeanerette Police Chief Terrence Moore.

According to Captain Leland Laseter, a spokesperson with the New Iberia Police Department, they were notified of a pursuit taking place with a Jeanerette officer pursuing a vehicle headed into their jurisdiction.

Near the intersection of Main and Iberia Streets, the suspect's vehicle, headed in the wrong direction on the roadway, hit the Jeanerette Police Department unit, causing the crash.

Laseter says three people in the vehicle then fled from the scene, but one suspect was captured.
