The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns basketball team came into the Gulf Coast Showcase having played two top 10 teams in back to back games. They knew that they would play similar teams to them in the event. Their first match-up came against Colorado State who was 3-0 coming into the game.

The Cajuns would go on an 18-5 run to start the game and would never trail in the game. Jakeenan Gant would lead the Cajuns in scoring with 19 and he would finish close to a double-double as he finished with 7 rebounds.

Louisiana would also have other players score in double figures nd contribute. Malik Marquetti would add 16 points while Justin Miller would add 13 points and 9 rebounds. Jeremy Hayes would add 11 points.

The Cajuns fast paced offense and their lock-down defense proved to be too much as they would force 20 turnovers and just run up and down the court on the Rams. Marcus Stroman would end up with 4 steals tying his season high.

The Cajuns will play better competition when they face off against either Florida Gulf Coast or Toledo tomorrow evening and look to move to 2-0 in the Showcase. Coach Marlin eluded to that in the postgame. He said, "We are going to need a better effort and energy tomorrow."
