The Louisville Metro Police Department confirms that two officers have been shot in the wake of the grand jury indictment in the Breonna Taylor case.

UPDATE: The LMPD confirms that two police officers were shot around 8:30 p.m. and a suspect is in custody. The police chief says their injuries are not life-threatening and officers are currently getting treatment at a local hospital.

The department didn't have any other details other than a statement from department spokesperson Sgt. Lamont Washington, this according to a report from CNN.

We currently have an officer shot. We’ll update when we can.

There is civil unrest and protests happening currently in Louisville in the wake of the news that only one officer has been indicted related to the murder of Breonna Taylor. Former Louisville Metro Police Detective Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment by the grand jury. Hankison was not charged with Taylor's death itself, but rather for shooting into nearby apartments. He was fired from the department after her death. No other officers involved in her death have been charged.

Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT was killed in her Louisville home on March 13, 2020, when police made a no-knock raid on the wrong apartment. She was in bed with her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, when the cops allegedly entered their home unannounced and did not identify themselves as police.

Earlier today Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said the investigation uncovered one witness who "heard the detectives identify themselves." This disputes numerous earlier reports that a “no-knock” warrant was being served. Legal representation for Breonna Taylor's family has disputed this but unfortunately, nothing can be proven since police were not wearing body cameras.

Taylor was shot eight times by Jonathan Mattingly, Myles Cosgrove, and Brett Hanikson.

There is a 72-hour curfew currently underway in Louisville, Kentucky, as protests continue following the grand jury indictment in the Breonna Taylor case.

This is a developing story.
