Syndicated talk show host Moon Griffon talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright about the latest news in the governor's race, including Senator John Kennedy's surprise announcement that he will not run against John Bel Edwards.

Griffon, heard weekdays on 101.7 / 710 KEEL from 9 til 11, tells listeners that he thinks the senator, who most agree made the decision at the very last minute, opted out of the race because of his rapidly growing stature and power in the upper chamber of congress.

Kennedy, who had promised to make his plans known no later that Monday, released the following statement:

“I love being in the United States Senate. I will not be a candidate for Governor in 2019. It is such an honor to represent the people of Louisiana in the United States Senate. Right now, that’s where I think I can do the most good.”

Other Republicans being named as possible candidates include Congressman Ralph Abraham, treasurer John Schroder and State Senator Sharon Hewitt.
