NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities in New York City say 29 people have been injured overnight in a five-alarm fire on Staten Island.

The Fire Department says 19 firefighters and 10 civilians suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious.

Nearly all were taken to the hospital but none of the injuries is considered life-threatening.

About 200 firefighters responded to the blaze at 1 a.m. today.

A fire department spokesman says the fire consumed three, 2-story townhouses.

One man says he caught one of two small children who were tossed out of a window of one of the burning buildings. The children are OK and firefighters rescued the man who tossed them to safety.
