A 17-year-old male is dead while a 15-year-old male is currently being held at the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Home following a shooting in Opelousas on Sunday.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says an eyewitness told deputies that four juvenile males were walking on Lofton Street in the Opelousas area when a 17-year-old juvenile and an adult male began shooting for unknown reasons. One of them - the 15 year-old who was arrested - had a firearm in his possession and returned fire, striking the 17-year-old in the neck area.

When questioned by detectives, the juvenile denied having the firearm and stated that he and his four friends were running down Lofton Street when shots were fired in their direction. But, investigators say the juvenile did have a firearm in the front waistband of his pants and was observed shooting at the 17-year-old and the adult male.
