Parolee Accused of Pointing A Gun In Lafayette Traffic
When you're on parole related to a felony, and there are allegations that you're riding in a car brandishing a gun, the law is sure to follow up on the tip from a fellow driver. That's just what happened at around 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies were called out to investigate a vehicle where the inhabitants were brandishing guns, and aiming those guns at fellow drivers.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office Spokesman Valerie Ponseti says that a vehicle was then pulled over on West Farrel Road.
Inside the car, they found the following guns:
- A Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun
- A Smith & Wesson XD 9mm gun
- A Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun
They also made contact with a man named Rashad George who happens to be on parole for a Simple Robbery Conviction. Since that is a felony, the 22-year-old was then arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of Certain Felonies.
Nobody else in the car received any citations.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber says,
I'm extremely proud of every effort my deputies make to deter and prevent gun violence, and of our continued mission to keep all residents of Lafayette Parish as safe as possible.
George lives in New Orleans. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
