Officer Rudesill was released from the hospital on Tuesday after undergoing surgery and is now recovering at home with her family.

According to KATC, she has released a statement thanking her colleagues for the love and support they have shown throughout her recovery process:

Statement of Officer Kaitlyn Rudesill of the Abbeville Police Department:

Thank you to my fellow Abbeville Police Department officers and dispatchers. You
were there for me when I needed you most. Your continued care and support have
made this experience so much easier and less stressful. Abbeville PD has taken
care of me like family. Words can’t express how grateful I am to each of you.

I would also like to thank all the law enforcement agencies that responded and
supported Abbeville PD in apprehending the suspect.

I am especially thankful for the first responders and the medical professionals at
Abbeville General Hospital that stabilized me; for Acadian Air Med for keeping
me stable and quickly transporting me to Lafayette General Hospital, and for the
medical professionals at Lafayette General who put me back together and kept me
comfortable until I was able to return home.

The overwhelming love and support from the Acadiana community has been
humbling. The community support has eased my worries and continues to do.
Audubon Lake Apartments has graciously provided an apartment for my family,
allowing them to be close to me. The generous donations received through the
Police Association of Lafayette’s GoFundMe campaign, North Vermilion High
School, and from around the community have and will help more than you can
know.

Thanks to everyone’s help, I’m home and starting my journey to recovery.

-Officer Kaitlyn Rudesill
