A recall has been issued on tens of thousands of vacuum cleaners due to the possibility of them catching fire.

Bissell has issued a voluntary recall on several of its cordless vacuum models.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a release that the circuit board of several of the Bissell Cordless Multi-Surface models can overheat and cause a fire hazard.

Being recalled, voluntarily, by Bissel are its Cordless Multi-Surface Wet/Dry Vacuum Models numbered 2551, 2551W, and the 25519.

Bissel asks that anyone who owns or uses any of its vacuums discontinue its use until they are certain of its model number.

In rare instances, some battery management circuit boards may be susceptible to localized hot spots, posing a risk of overheating and possible risk of fire. - Bissell

The model number is located behind the clean water tank on a large back bar on the information sticker.

If the model number of your unit is in the recall (2551, 2551W, and 25519), you are asked to remove your vacuum from the charging base and contact your nearest Bissel authorized service center.

There you can schedule a free, in-home repair visit to repair the unit.

The "fix" for this recall is the replacement of the battery pack inside the vacuum unit.

BISSELL has received 66 reports of the vacuum smoking and emitting a burning odor; including five reports of the battery pack catching on fire, three of which resulted in minor property damage and one resulting in a burn injury. - Consumer Product Safety Commission
