One of the biggest items on the legislative agenda is still hanging in the balance as lawmakers move into special session in Baton Rouge. A push for tort reform in the state took a surprising turn, when Republican State Senator Kirk Talbot appeared to back down from some of the biggest proposed changes to state law. Sources say an amendment, which was reportedly agreed upon during negotiations with Governor Edwards, doesn't do enough to lower car insurance rates in the state. This was one of the biggest goals of Republicans who were pushing for reform.

State Senators approved the legislation, which supporters say will help to lower car insurance prices. Now all eyes are on the Governor to see if he will veto the bill. But there are enough votes in the State Senate to override that veto.
